All fifth grade students began work on their 'Digital Story' assignment. This project is a capstone project that allows each student to utilize all the great technology skills they've learned over the years in the Northwest Computer Lab. Students are very excited to be taking pictures with a digital camera, creating a photo presentation with background music and adding narration using their own voice. When the project is finished they will burn it to a CD to take home as a keepsake from their time at Northwest Elementary A FAVORITE project of most students :-) You can download the software for FREE!
This week students celebrated St. Patrick's Day by learning a bit about Irish culture, song and dance while watching the original Riverdance performance. The YouTube clip is shown below.
We discussed how each culture preserves it's folk traditions through the arts, and Ireland is more than just shamrocks and leprechauns :-)
The younger students went on an Irish tour through Build-A-Bear website.
Kindergarten students and first grade classes loved counting gold by 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's with the wee people. Enjoy the activities and don't forget to wear green on March 17!
The past few weeks all students have been working on the following two educational websites practicing core academic skills and strategies at their grade level. The students have been so excited that when it's "Free Choice" time the last 15 minutes of class, they choose to continue to do these activities :-) Click on the links below to try them out!
