Happy Winter Holidays!
The first full week in December is my one of my very FAVORITE times in the Technology Lab!!!
Dec. 5 - 11 is the official "Hour of Code". The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. Anyone, anywhere can organize an Hour of Code event. One-hour tutorials are available in over 45 languages. No experience needed. Ages 4 to 104. I will be introducing this fun activity to all 3rd - 5th grade students. Each year the creaters of this great event create a new activity based on a current popular childrens' movie or game. In the past my students have created code for Minecraft, Star Wars and Frozen. This year's activity engages students by using characters from the new movie, Moana.
I tell the students if we have a snow day or they get "bored" over break to come back to this site and keep playing and learning. I like to think that if I was starting over and considering what I want to be when I grow up, I would chose coding or computer programming... LOL... but I wanted to be a teacher since 2nd grade, never imaging I would someday become a Technology Teacher!!! What a great career it's been, but coding is definitely the future :-)
